Ten years ago, SAFY Lima Behavioral Health received Victims of Crime Assistance (VOCA) funding to launch the Youth Drop-In Center (YDC). This ambitious step grown into a trusted resource serving more than 100 youth each year. Today, the YDC provides a safe, supervised space where youth ages 12 to 17 can engage in activities, build relationships, and develop skills that support their growth and future success.

“More than 40 years ago, SAFY was founded here in Lima,” said Michelle Stockwell, Treatment Director. “The YDC reflects that ongoing commitment and creates a consistent space where young people feel supported, build confidence, and stay connected to their community.”

Youth are often referred by schools, families, foster parents, and community partners who trust SAFY to provide structure, encouragement, and a welcoming environment. As part of the anniversary, SAFY is also unveiling updates designed to make the space more comfortable, accessible, and sensory-friendly.

SAFY’s mission at the Youth Drop-In Center remains clear: to be a reliable place where young people feel seen, heard, and supported as they build resilience and move toward adulthood with confidence and hope.

Media are invited to attend. Photo opportunities include the ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m., followed by tours of the updated space.

Community members, partners, and media are welcome to join us in recognizing 10 years of impact in the Lima community.
