Adoptive Services

When children in Therapeutic Foster Care cannot be safely reunited with their birth families, SAFY of Nevada supports Therapeutic Foster Care Parents who desire to adopt the youth in their home. Learn more >

Therapeutic Foster Care

SAFY of Nevada’s Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC) or treatment foster care places youth in need of treatment-level care in a supportive, family environment. Our services focus on permanency, safety and well-being for both parents and youth, providing a therapeutic level of care that addresses trauma healing, parental skill building, success in school and coping skills. Our goal is to ensure each child’s physical and emotional safety and facilitate their return to their biological family, adoption, or kinship adoption. Learn more >

Family Preservation & Reunification

When storms in life impact a family’s ability to achieve physical, social, and emotional well-being, our Family Preservation services provides them with the necessary skills to bounce back from difficult situations and experiences. Our clinical team meets families right where they are to achieve healthy, sustainable relationships at home, at school, and in life. Learn more >

Behavioral Health

SAFY of Nevada offers in-home and community-based behavioral health services including individual and family therapy, screening and assessment services designed to preserve the family unit and increase health and well-being. These services are delivered in a child’s and family’s natural environment such as home, substitute care, school and community. Our goal is to create a system of support that empowers all individuals and families seeking treatment with the skills to lead self-sufficient and fulfilling lives as productive members of their community. Learn more >

Older Youth Services

SAFY of Nevada’s Older Youth services promote healthy development and prepares youth emancipating from the foster care and/or juvenile justice system for self-sufficiency and independent living. Care coordination services help youth master an array of skill sets that are essential for the transition from foster care to adulthood, including secure housing, employment and education, and responsible reproductive health. Learn more >

Valerie Hicks MSSA, LISW


Valerie has a longstanding career serving and advocating for children and families within the human services industry. She began her career with SAFY of Ohio in 2011 as a Treatment Director, and rose through leadership ranks to be named the Executive Director of SAFY of Nevada in 2013. Known for her clinical and administrative expertise, Valerie continues to demonstrate the ability to implement programs that impact the community and directly benefit families and children. She is a leader in advancing innovative growth strategies that produce positive and sustainable outcomes. She has been instrumental in developing government and industry-related relationships that advance family and child welfare initiatives.
