When a child cannot return to their biological family, our Adoption services bridge their journey to a forever family and support families who desire to adopt through foster care. Adoption through foster care is similar to other types of adoption in that when the decision is made and the paperwork and preparation process is complete,  the dream of family is fulfilled. Foster care adoptions, however, are different in a few important ways:

• Though it is possible to adopt a baby from foster care, the children who are available for adoption generally range from toddler to 21. The median age is eight years old.

• Because all children in foster care have experienced some form of trauma, parents who adopt from foster care undergo specific training to understand the effects of trauma and help children heal in a strong family setting.

• Parents who adopt from foster care usually work with a public agency or a private agency that has contracted with the state to provide services.
