Training

SAFY provides specialized training to ensure foster parents have the skills they need to be effective parents. In order to obtain licensure, foster parents also undergo CPR, first aid and de-escalation training. Training topics include:

  • Overview of Foster Care, Adoption, and Kinship Care
  • Teambuilding: The Role of the Parent/Caregiver on the Child Welfare Team; Legal Rights and Responsibilities of Caregiver
  • Child Abuse or Neglect and the Impact on Child Development
  • Attachment, Separation, and Placement
  • Discipline
  • Cultural Issues in Placement
  • Primary Families
  • Effects of Caregiving on the Family; Communicable Diseases; Community Health and Social Services Available to Children and Families; Information Required for Adjudicated Delinquent Children
  • Caring for Children Who Have Been Sexually Abused
  • State Rules, SAFY Policies, Educational Advocacy, Documentation & IL Skill Development
  • Permanency Issues for Children
  • Permanency Issues for Families
