Founded in 1986, the National Institute for Alternative Care Professionals (pronounced NI-FAK) was conceived as dedicating itself nationally to the ever-growing training and certification needs of professionals in alternative youth care. It not only acted as a training institute for its parent organization, SAFY, but also contracted with other organizations to provide desktop publishing services, mailing lists, trainer selection, professional CEU's, and general conference coordination.
Although NIFACP usually sets up training for the SAFY Staff and foster parents, professional staff and foster parents from other agencies sometimes attend when it is seen as a collaborative and meaningful endeavor to have them. Our interest in networking and in improving the services to needy youth and their hardworking staff and foster parents, means that it is beneficial to invite others into the SAFY training events at certain times. Some people need the CEU's and some need the information, knowledge, and skill development.
