SAFY of Texas hosts Heritage Auction
Event raises funds for local foster and adoptive youth
(DALLAS, Texas) -- Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) of Texas and Heritage Auctions recently hosted an afternoon brunch to benefit local foster and adoptive children.
Guests were invited to bring family heirlooms and garage sale finds to determine if they were “real or fakes!” Professionals were on-hand to offer guests the opportunity to have their heirlooms appraised.
“Something is worth what you can sell it for,” Heritage Auction representatives told the crowd. “It doesn’t matter what you paid for it, or what you saw it listed for on craigslist or eBay. Those things haven’t been sold. Values are really set at garage sales. You know when you set a price of 25-cents and then someone asks, ‘Will you take 10?’ That’s when you know the item’s true value.”
While no items appraised at an actual dollar value, it was determined many treasures had “high family value.” The event also featured food and refreshments provided by Heritage Auctions and 3015 @ Trinity Groves Catering, host of SAFY’s 2012 Safari fundraiser.
