SAFY receives Wendy’s Wonderful Kids grant
Funds will support adoption services in Indiana

(MERRILLVILLE, Indiana) --- Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY) of America is pleased to announce it has received a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids grant in the amount of $70,000 from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The funding will be used in northwest Indiana to implement a proactive, child-focused recruitment program with the goal of placing foster children unable to return to their primary families into adoptive homes.

"SAFY’s emphasis on relationship building and collaborative partnerships with other providers is an important part of our reunification, adoption and self-sufficiency services for children and youth," says Richard R. Nedelkoff, SAFY of America President and Chief Executive Officer. "This award reflects the organization’s bold determination and commitment to permanency for all youth."

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption awards grants to public and private child welfare agencies to hire adoption professionals who implement proactive, child-focused recruitment programs focused on placing America’s longest-waiting children into adoptive families. The foundation currently funds 162 recruiters throughout the United States and Canada, and has placed more than 3,300 children and youth in forever families.

"In northwest Indiana, most foster youth in need of an adoptive family have spent at least 24 months in the child welfare system," Nedelkoff says. "This grant is a great asset to the youth and SAFY, allowing the organization a staff member exclusively focused on making these placements."

SAFY is the single source provider for Post Adoption services in northwest Indiana. In addition to placement services, the organization provides family services, counseling and support, crisis intervention, support groups and referrals.
