“Wild About SAFY” event to benefit area foster children
Tickets still available for event
Approximately 25 people turned out for an ice cream tasting at Wild About Harry’s on Knox Street
in Dallas on Saturday, October 23rd. Participants sampled custard flavors including bubble gum,
cotton candy, tutee fruity and taffy, and voted for their favorite. The tasting is part of a fundraising
event to benefit Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth (SAFY), a local human services organization
providing foster, adoption and therapeutic services to area children and families in crisis.
The winning flavor will be announced at the upcoming “Wild About SAFY Benefit”, a fundraising
event to be held on Tuesday, November 9 at the Samuel Lynne Galleries in Dallas, TX. The event
will also feature a live painting exhibition by J.D. Miller and a live art auction. Upon
announcing the winning custard flavor, Wild About Harry’s will sell the custard as SAFY’s flavor
in their Knox Street location donating 25% of the custard sales to SAFY. All funds raised by
Wild About Harry’s and at the “Wild About SAFY” event will provide Christmas gifts for children
living with foster families.
Most foster children live with foster parents who are of modest means. There’s often no additional
money available when an expense comes up beyond the ordinary. Many foster children go without
things that are a routine part of childhood, like school pictures and trips, graduation items,
sports fees and equipment and Christmas gifts. Reimbursement provides basic funding to cover food
and clothing costs, while Medicaid covers basic health care, but many items considered basic by most
people are not covered. Foster children need help with providing some of the extras that many families
take for granted.
If you would like to participate in the “Wild About SAFY Benefit” event, tickets may be purchased online
at www.safy.org for $25, or at the door for $30. All art auctioned at the event will benefit SAFY foster
children.
